What it is
Group Critical Illness Cover pays a defined lump sum directly to an employee if they are diagnosed with one of a list of specified serious conditions — including cancer, heart attack, stroke, and many others. Unlike income protection, which replaces income over time, critical illness cover provides an immediate cash sum that the employee can use however they choose.
This flexibility is what makes it so valuable. The lump sum might be used to pay off a mortgage, fund home adaptations, cover the cost of private treatment not available on the NHS, or simply provide financial breathing space during recovery.

Who it's for
Group critical illness can be arranged for businesses with as few as five employees and is available for selected employees or the whole workforce. The benefit level is usually set as a fixed sum or a multiple of salary.
